In addition to her teaching career, she has worked for several years as a counselor and interventionist with Family Youth Intervention (FYI). As an expert in epigenetic trauma, Morah Tawana understands the profound influence that early life experiences and environmental factors can have on an individual’s genetics, affecting their mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Epigenetic trauma refers to the phenomenon where traumatic experiences can alter gene expression, leading to long-lasting consequences that may impact not only the individual but also future generations. This area of specialization allows Tawana to offer tailored support and interventions for youth struggling with the ramifications of past traumas, helping them to better understand their experiences and find pathways to healing and resilience.
Tawana holds three degrees from Ferris State University, including an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts, a Bachelor of Science in English Education with a minor in Speech Communication, and a Master of Arts in Community Counseling from Spring Arbor University. Her academic achievements are complemented by certifications in substance abuse and sexual abuse recovery, equipping her with the skills necessary to address various challenges faced by vulnerable youth.
In addition to her educational and counseling roles, Tawana is the co-founder of the New Breed Community Development Corporation, an organization committed to uplifting and empowering the community through outreach and supportive programs. As the founder of Habiru Vegan Style Restaurant, she passionately promotes healthy living and sustainable choices through delicious plant-based cuisine.
