mission goals

Goals:

The Alkebulan Bridge Project seeks to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Holistic Education: Provide comprehensive educational resources and experiences about African history, culture, and contributions that are often overlooked in mainstream American curricula. This includes workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions focusing on the rich tapestry of African civilizations prior to the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
  2. Empowerment Through Travel: Facilitate travel opportunities for young Black Americans to visit their ancestral homelands in Africa. This program aims to deepen their connection to their roots while allowing them to engage directly with diverse cultures, communities, and historical sites.
  3. Leadership Development: Cultivate a new generation of leaders equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to advocate for social justice and community upliftment. This involves mentorship programs, leadership training workshops, and exposure to influential figures in various fields.
  4. Cultural Exchange: Foster exchanges between urban youth in the U.S. and communities in Africa, promoting cross-cultural understanding and collaboration. This will help create lasting relationships that bridge the gap between continents and enrich both sides through shared experiences.
  5. Community Building: Strengthen local communities by encouraging youth to take active roles in community service projects aimed at addressing local issues. This cultivates a sense of collaboration, unity, and accountability.
  6. Mental Health Support: Address mental health challenges faced by urban youth by integrating discussions on heritage and identity into wellness programs, thus promoting a sense of pride and self-worth.

Core Philosophy:
“To truly comprehend one’s present and to chart a meaningful path for the future, it is essential to first understand one’s origins. Knowledge of our ancestral roots not only provides context but also empowers individuals with a profound sense of identity and belonging. Recognizing the rich history and cultural legacies that precede us enriches our lives, enabling us to forge informed connections with our communities and the world at large.”

Mission:

The Alkebulan Bridge Project transforms how urban youth of African descent see and experience their world by first transforming how they see and experience themselves (past, present & future), and the continent of Africa. Our mission is to take as many Black Americans of African descent back to Africa as possible introducing youth to African leaders in education, business, music, art, agriculture, technology. The opportunity consists of visits to museums, universities, historical sites, and nature reserves on the Continent. In order to qualify, participants must be between ages 13 and 30 and be of African descent.
